Hello and welcome,
Sewing became my passion when my husband and I began reenacting the Civil War in 1997. I fell in love with the Victorian Era and made one dress after another, enjoying the challenge and creative outlet it provided. Soon we expanded our love for history to the Revolutionary War Era and then World War II.
When our kids were born, I focused on the history and construction of children’s clothing. Through our Civil War Reenacting unit, I had opportunities to give presentations and conduct children’s fashion shows at local events.
Reenacting was a huge part or our lives for many years. Now that our kids are older and more involved with school activities and sports, our weekend reenactments have been put on hold.
My personal interests have turned to the early- through mid-twentieth century fashion. I love buying original patterns from the ’20s, ’30s, ’40s and ’50s and making dresses from them.
With that, I have begun an Etsy business and blog called Sew Decades Ago for which I make authentic reproductions of vintage fashions. In my blog, I share my adventures in pattern purchase, fabric selection and garment construction.
My passion for sewing continues on through decades of history, beginning in the 1700’s on through the 1950’s. For me, each era is interesting and beautiful in its own way.
